Voting Rights Act - The Supreme Court of the United States has struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act. Section 4 of the VRA establishes a formula for determining which counties require federal oversight during elections to prevent racial discrimination. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 to strike down Section 4 of the act while upholding the other sections designed to combat racist practices in elections. We talk with Univerty of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law Professor Brian Landsberg about the impact of the ruling in California.
News Network - In this week's News Network we talk with News 10's Tim Daly about issues he's been covering in the San Joaquin Valley. Plus, Brian Hamilton from The Union speaks with us about the controversial decision by the Nevada County Fair Board's on whether to allow elephant rides at this summer's fair.
"Wizard of Oz" - If you've ever been captivated by Judy Garland singing the timeless ballad "Over the Rainbow" in one of Hollywood's greatest films, "The Wizard of Oz," then you'll probably enjoy the Broadway version of the classic musical. Sacramentoâs Music Circus is kicking off this year's season with a staging of "The Wizard of Oz" in the round, featuring 18 local child actors playing quite appropriately - munchkins. We'll speak with some munchkins about the show and hear some music from the ongoing production. "The Wizard of Oz" runs through June 30.
Tapigami Sacramento-area - Danny Scheible and Tre Borden are business partners, Phoebe Hearst Elementary alumni and the force behind the opening of Exhibit S, a 7,300-square-foot arts hub in the Sacramento Downtown Plaza, this Thursday. Scheible is also the creator of "Tapigami," an original form of art that turns everyday tape into such works of art as jewelry or even model cities, that will be exhibited at this new arts hub. Scheible and Borden, Tapigami's business manager, join us today to talk about this unique art form and Thursday's event.
